Getting files in

Upload files or a folder

Upload on the toolbar picks individual files; Upload folder takes a whole folder including everything inside it. Uploads always go into the folder you are looking at, so open the destination first. Browsers only allow one folder per picker action, so click Upload folder again for the next one.

Drag and drop

Drag any mix of files and folders from your computer onto the file list. Fileyard reads the whole tree, queues it, and starts uploading straight away.

The upload tray

Uploads run in a panel in the bottom corner showing progress, transfer speed and an estimated time left. You can carry on browsing while it works, collapse the tray with the chevron, or press Cancel to stop. A folder upload is all or nothing — if one file inside it fails, the rest of that folder is rolled back so you never end up with half a folder.

Failures are almost always files that are open or locked by another program. Close them and press Upload in the tray to retry just those.

Working with your files

Selecting

Click to select, Ctrl+click to add or remove one, and Shift+click to take a whole range. The toolbar buttons switch on as soon as something is selected, and the pill on the right tells you how many items and how much data.

Keyboard shortcuts

These work anywhere on the file list:

• ↑ ↓ — move through the list
• Enter — open the highlighted item
• Backspace — go up one folder
• Ctrl+A — select everything visible
• Ctrl+C / Ctrl+X / Ctrl+V — copy, cut and paste into another folder
• F2 — rename · Delete — move to the recycle bin
• Ctrl+F — filter this folder · / — search everything
• Esc — clear the selection

Moving and copying

Drag a selection onto a folder row, onto a folder in the tree on the left, or onto a breadcrumb to move it there. For longer journeys use Move or Copy on the toolbar and pick a destination, or use cut/copy and paste.

Sorting, filtering and views

Click a column heading to sort; click again to reverse it. Folders always stay above files, and your choice is remembered. The Filter this folder box narrows the list as you type, and the two buttons beside it switch between the detailed list and a grid of thumbnails.

Previewing

Double-click a picture, PDF, text file, video or audio file to open it in the browser. The arrows — or the ← and → keys — step through the other previewable files in the folder. Anything else downloads instead.

Getting files out

Downloading

One file downloads directly. A folder, or any selection of several items, is packed into a zip first — large ones take a moment while it is built. Download a backup in the side panel takes your entire account in one zip.

Share links

Select what you want to share and choose Share. Pick how long the link should last, and optionally make it work only once. Anyone with the link can download those items without signing in. The Share links page lists every link you have made and lets you revoke one instantly.

Safety nets

Recycle bin

Deleting moves items to the Recycle bin rather than destroying them. Restore puts an item back exactly where it was, even if the folder around it was deleted too. Items left in the bin are cleared automatically after 30 days.

Accounts

Registering creates an account that cannot sign in until an administrator approves it, so an unexpected sign-up never gets access to anything.

Appearance

The moon or sun button in the header switches between the light and dark themes. Your choice is remembered on this device; if you have never chosen, Fileyard follows your operating system.
